The bank’s press service noted that relevant official letters were forwarded by Alfa-Bank executives to Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin, head of the Federal Anti-Trust Service (FAS) Igor Artemiev and CBR board chairman Sergey Ignatiev.
“Alfa-Bank is prepared to participate in an auction, public by its structure, to sell Moscow’s 46.48% interest in the Bank of Moscow," the lending institution pointed out in a statement.
Alfa-Bank was registered in early 1991. Its beneficial owners are Alfa-Group co-owners Mikhail Fridman, Herman Khan and Alexey Kuzmichev (who control 36.47%, 23.27% and 18.12%, respectively), and also Alfa-Bank CEO Peter Aven (13.76%), former Alfa-Bank top manager Alex Knaster (4.3%) and Andrey Kosogov (4.08%). Based on Banki.ru data, as of December 1, 2010 Alfa-Bank’s net assets stood at Rub 834.47 bln (No. 7 in Russia), capital (calculated in line with CBR requirements) totaled Rub 111.92 bln, including the Rub 56.05 bln subordinated loan, the credit portfolio amounted to Rub 550.76 bln and obligations to households came to Rub 158.86 bln.
The Bank of Moscow was established in spring 1994 at the initiative of the Moscow government in order to handle relevant financial flows. City Hall’s department for state and municipal property directly owns 46.48% of the bank’s securities and it controls another 17.32% interest through Stolichnaya Insurance Group. 20.32% of the bank’s securities are controlled by its self-perpetuating (since 1995) president Andrey Borodin and deputy management board chairman Lev Alaluev. Based on Banki.ru data, as of December 1, 2010 the Bank of Moscow’s net assets stood at Rub 969.01 bln (No. 5 in Russia), capital (calculated in line with CBR requirements) totaled Rub 144.84 bln, including the Rub 35.68 bln subordinated loan, the credit portfolio amounted to Rub 639.75 bln and obligations to households came to Rub 159.85 bln.
