There will be a shift from cash to payments using bank cards, but the pace depends on real conditions in the country, presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov said.
"Undoubtedly, such (shadow) economy does exist, I cannot say anything exact about the scope of it or disclose any numbers. At the same time, this is a challenge faced by all countries in the world, and Russia is known to be the party to all international conventions and treaties aimed to combat legalization of criminal income and money laundering. In this context, many countries undoubtedly decide to limit amounts of cash to the minimum, and for this reason this issue, needless to say, deserves attention," Peskov told journalists.
According to him, "at the same time it is necessary to take into account real conditions in the country with regard to the circulation of bank cards, penetration of banking services and so on".
"In this respect there are various points of view, but this international practice has recommended itself as efficient, and certainly there will be steps, one way or another, in this direction, but the pace, of course, depends on many factors," the presidential press secretary added.
