A prosecutors office in New York has initiated the investigation against Gunvor Group company, based by Russian billionaire Gennady Timchenko, on the subject of implementation of corrupt deals. Wall Street Journal reports, citing its own sources, that theUS Department of Justice connected to the investigation of financial operations related to money laundering.
The public prosecution is interested whether Gennady Timchenko could transfer the funds connected with presumably corrupt deals that were made in Russia through the US financial system.
In particular, American prosecutors check “the dealings of Timchenkos companyGunvor Group on acquisition of oil from the Russian corporation called Rosneft and its subsequent sale to third parties”.
According to the publication, corrupt dealings of the sale of state assets, such as oil, had been made before the introduction of anti- Russian sanctions by the USA against a number of officials and businessmen, including Timchenko. Timchenko himself and Rosneftrefused to comment this subject.
Gunvor Group reported that nobody had informed the company about any investigation. Earlier he had stated that the US secret services hunt on him and prepare all sorts of provocations. Timchenkos representative refused to provide any details “for safety reasons”. The billionaire told in June about his intention to transfer all his assets to Russia until the end of 2014.
Gunvor Group was founded in 2000 by the Russian Gennady Timchenko and the Swede TornbyornTonkvist. Timchenko sold his proportion of shares of the oil trader (44%) to Tornkvist the day before the announcement of the blacklists of Russians by the US authorities.
